Care for oily skin in the summer
The needs of the skin may vary depending on the season. In winter, many people with an oily type are faced with dehydrated skin, and in summer, on the contrary, they suffer from excessive fat content.
To minimize the unpleasant consequences of these two polar conditions, you can use care, the principles of which are the same regardless of the season and even the type of skin. In other words, if home care is balanced and meets the needs of your body, it will work equally well in winter and summer.
What problems can the owner of oily skin face during the warm season?
INCREASED SKIN FATS
Along with increased sweating in hot weather, the sebaceous glands also begin to work more actively, secreting more sebum. Someone simply does not like such aesthetics, and someone cannot use decorative cosmetics for this reason – it either does not hold on to very oily porous skin or causes unwanted rashes. And sometimes all at once.
INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF RAYS
This can be both a consequence of the increased work of the sebaceous glands and the result of an unsuccessful relationship with new cosmetics introduced into daily care. Also, new rashes can be a reaction to ultraviolet radiation. True, often the reaction to the sun has a delayed character and makes itself felt only closer to autumn.
Freckles and hyperpigmentation
Freckles and other manifestations of hyperpigmentation. I do not see anything wrong with this, but I consider it important to remind that spots on the skin often appear due to excess sun, which worsens the overall quality of the skin, accelerates the appearance of wrinkles, and can become a provocateur of several skin diseases, including cancer.

Cleansing and facial cleansing
I am sure that cleansing the skin should be gentle and gentle, regardless of the season. If you cleanse the skin too often and too aggressively – until it squeaks, the sebaceous glands will not like it. The fact is that the sebum secreted by the sebaceous glands is an important component of the hydrolipid mantle. It is she who protects the skin from adverse environmental factors.
If the skin is deprived of this protective barrier – with the help of cleansing to a squeak and aggressive care – it will begin to intensively form it on its own, with the help of its own sebum. As a result, the skin becomes even more oily, and the number of rashes increases.
Hydrophilic oil helps to avoid unnecessary friction and easily dissolves the densest and resistant makeup. Also, hydrophilic products do a great job with sunscreens, which are not always easy to wash off, especially if the texture is matting or waterproof.
First step
You can use your usual cleanser – it will wash away the remaining oil and give some confidence that the skin is really clean. However, when choosing a washbasin, pay attention to the pH: it should be at least neutral, and even better – acidic. If the manufacturer does not indicate such information on the packaging, pay attention to products for cleansing sensitive, dry, or combination skin.
Special cleansing products for oily skin, but overdried with drug treatment, may also be suitable. Such washes are less aggressive than products for the oily type, and in the long term, they will give a more stable and pleasant result for the health and appearance of the skin.
In the morning, the procedure for leaving may change – there is practically no sense in hydrophilic oil after waking up.
Second step
I do not consider toning a necessary step in the care of problem skin. But if you use an aggressive cleanser and are trying to maintain matte skin with drying cosmetics, it makes sense to consider a light acidic toner that will help the skin restore its protective functions lost after the obsessive desire to wash and matte the skin a little faster. Believe me, there will be much more sense from gentle and gentle cleansing. And money in the wallet too.
Moisturizing facial skin
It is difficult to do without moisturizing for modern skin, even if it seems to you that oily skin does not need moisturizing. As mentioned above, if you deprive the skin of the protective film, it will begin to create it itself – with the help of its own sebum.
Suitable moisturizing care can act as a kind of enhancer or even a substitute for this protective mantle, thereby reducing the stress on the sebaceous glands, which are already overactive in hot weather.
Adequate hydration can also help with enlarged pores. This is the main paradox of oily sensitive skin: if you stop drying it and start treating it more carefully, moisturizing, and protecting, it will react with gratitude.
However, it is also not worth zealousness and overloading the skin with moisture. If in winter owners of even a fatty type can afford denser and richer textures, then summer care is often accompanied by a transition to lighter gels, fluids, serums – products of this kind are more comfortable to use in hot weather.
Facial hydration stage
You can try something mattifying, but I would not recommend going on cosmetics with a matting effect – very often it contains drying components, due to which the skin instantly becomes dull, but in the long term it risks becoming even fatter. The same goes for refreshing toners and sprays – they provide instant relief and a feeling of freshness, but with regular use can increase the oily skin.
Sun protection
If you want to maintain a healthy and pleasant appearance of your skin, as well as avoid exacerbation of acne and other inflammatory diseases, you need to protect yourself from ultraviolet radiation.
However, the difficulty lies in the fact that it is extremely difficult to find a comfortable sunscreen for owners of an oily type – most SPF products are too dense, very oily, and wildly inconvenient to use on their own, not to mention their combination with decorative cosmetics.
In urban conditions, light moisturizing fluids with an SPF of at least 30 may become the best option. Similar products are often found in Asian manufacturers – they are light in texture, comfortable to use, and do not conflict with decorative cosmetics. Thus, without overloading the skin with care, you can kill two birds with one stone: moisturize the skin and protect it from the adverse effects of ultraviolet radiation.
Exfoliation and sebum regulation
Gentle cleansing and comfortable moisturizing should already play a good role in getting rid of excess oily skin with acne. But several components can regulate the activity of the sebaceous glands and slightly reduce their activity – these are niacinamide, green tea extract, L-carnitine, salicylic acid, and external retinoids.
The last two ingredients are also able to fight existing acne and prevent new ones. Only now, if the products based on salicylic acid can be used all year round without serious restrictions, then many recommend refraining from cosmetics and medicines based on retinoids.
And this is not because retinol is included in the protocols of complex care for aging skin after 40 but to the lack of a culture of sun protection. Retinoids and the desire to expose themselves to the sun whenever possible are weakly compatible. However, as long as you do not abuse the sun, and regularly and properly use sunscreen, there are no restrictions on the use of acids and topical retinoids.
Matting the face with napkins
I am not very good at matting cosmetics. The ingredients used in products of this kind do not in any way affect the activity of the sebaceous glands and often give an effect here and now by depriving the skin of the very protective barrier that we talked about above. As a result of such manipulations, the skin reacts with increased secretion of sebum. This is a vicious circle, from which it is difficult to get out.
So far, the simplest, inexpensive, and safe way to remove oily shine from the skin is matting wipes. It is almost impossible to overdo it with them in care.
